Palin Vetter Lacks Recognition He Deserves

With all the post election buzz around the next administration don't forget to take time out to thank the man who brought Sarah Palin into our lives.

The Republican attorney Arthur B. Culvahouse Jr. was the man in charge of vetting Gov. Sarah Palin for the McCain campaign. McCain picked Palin for his vice presidential nominee based largely on the advice given him by Culvahouse.

Culvahouse defended his vetting to the AP back in September:

Palin underwent a "full and complete" background examination before McCain chose her as his running mate, Culvahouse said. Asked whether everything that came up as a possible red flag during the review already has been made public, he said: "I think so. Yah, I think so. Correct."

Well with everything that came out about Sarah Palin during the campaign it is safe to say that Art Culvahouse didn't do such a great job. However Culvahouse does deserve thanks for the biggest entertainment of the 2008 campaign.

Culvahouse just won reelection to the chairmanship of O'Melveny & Myers LLP. Thank you notes can be emailed to Arthur at aculvahouse@omm.com

Just think how boring the election would have been if Tim Pawlenty was the veep nominee.

Might I also note that "A.B." was the man responsible for the merger of his firm with the boutique private equity firm O'Sullivan back in 2002, a move that ruined both O'Sullivan and the O'Melveny & Myers New York office, that made a lot of money for a small number of people over the short term, and that he still defends. At least the quality of his judgment is consistent.
